KUALA LUMPUR: "We have a WhatsApp group (chat)."

That was the response by Umno Supreme Council member Datuk Lokman Noor Adam when he was asked if the party plans to submit a letter to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim over the decision by the Pardons Board yesterday in connection with Datuk Seri Najib Razak's case.

"Umno president (Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi) is in contact with the Prime Minister (Anwar) and Najib.

"We do not need to send letters since we can just directly talk to each other.

"We (cabinet members in the unity government) still have a WhatsApp chat group. So, do not worry," he told reporters after attending the special meeting at the party's headquarters in Menara Dato Onn here today.

Pressed further if the party would submit a letter to Anwar, Lokman asked members of the media to wait for the statement to be issued by the Umno Supreme Council.

"We will issue a press release today," he said.

The Umno Supreme Council, in a statement after the special meeting, did not indicate if the party plans to write a letter to Anwar.

It was reported yesterday that the Federal Territories Pardons Board has reduced Najib's fine to RM50 million from RM210 million as well as halving his 12-year jail term to six.

The decision however did not go down well with several Umno leaders who felt that the former Pekan member of Parliament should be granted a full pardon.
