KUALA LUMPUR: Umno will kick off a nationwide signature campaign soon to appeal for His Majesty, Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia, to consider granting Datuk Seri Najib Razak a full pardon.

Datuk Lokman Noor Adam said that all the Supreme Council members agreed to meet to discuss the Pardons Board's decision on Najib. The council held a special session today that convened at 11.30am.

Lokman, who is also the Umno Supreme Council member, also said the party would also initiate efforts for Najib to be granted either parole or a house arrest.

"Although we uphold the decision made by the (then) Yang di-Pertuan Agong and the Pardons Board, the party is nevertheless saddened that Najib was not granted a full pardon.

"Umno will begin collecting signatures around the country (involving its members) to appeal to the 17th Yang di-Pertuan Agong to consider granting a royal pardon to Najib," he told reporters after attending the meeting.

He also said that Umno president and Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi is expected to meet all Umno division chiefs around the country soon to explain the situation and issues surrounding the decision made by the Pardons Board yesterday.
