JASIN: A female teacher succumbed to injuries sustained in an accident, believed to be caused by damaged road surface along Jalan Gapam-Bemban here Tuesday.

The crash occurred around 11.20am when the victim, Siti Sarah Mohamed Nuwawi, 32, who was also the head teacher at the Islamic care centre (Pasti) Jasin Bestari, was riding her motorcycle towards Gapam from Bemban.

Jasin police chief Deputy Superintendent Ahmad Jamil Radzi said the victim was pronounced dead four hours after the crash while receiving treatment at Melaka Hospital.

"Initial investigations suggest that the accident occurred when the victim is believed to have hit an uneven area of the road due to damage to the road surface, causing her to lose control, skid, and fall on the left side of the road.

"As a result, the victim suffered severe head injuries and was rushed to the hospital for treatment before being pronounced dead at 4.20pm in the emergency unit," he said in a statement.

Ahmad Jamil urged witnesses to come forward with information to assist the investigation by contacting the nearby police station.

He said the case was being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

Meanwhile, the news of the accident went viral on social media and received various reactions from netizens, especially concerning the condition of the damaged road surface.

Road safety activist and founder of the Brotherhood, Azlan Sani Zawawi, who has been outspoken about pothole issues in the country, urged the family of the victim to take legal action regarding the incident.
