KUALA LUMPUR: Another national football player became a victim of an attack last night when his car's rear windscreen was smashed by unknown assailants in Johor Baru.
Safiq Rahim, who is a Johor Darul Ta'zim midfielder, was driving his Honda City car near the club's training centre in Jalan Seri Gelam when two men on a motorcycle approached him at about 10pm.
It is learnt that the motorcycle's pillion rider took out a hammer and smashed the car's rear windscreen. The impact jolted Shafiq and he stopped his vehicle.
An initial report said the two assailants then stopped in front of Safiq's car while brandising the hammer.
Fearing for his safety, Safiq reversed his vehicle before the two men on motorcycle fled the scene.
Johor Baru (South) district police chief Assistant Commissioner Raub Selamat confirmed the incident and said efforts were underway to track down the suspects.
"The investigation is under Section 427 of the Penal Code (for mischief and causing damage). We are in the midst of tracking down and arresting the suspects involved," he said.
This is the second attack on a national player in two days. On Sunday, Selangor FC player Faisal Halim suffered severe burns when two men on a motorcycle splashed acid on him in Kota Damansara, Selangor.
