KUALA LUMPUR: An e-hailing driver and his passenger, a Swedish woman are believed to be among those injured by a tree that fell on Jalan Sultan Ismail this afternoon.

Dang Wangi district deputy police chief, Superintendent Nazron Abd Yusof said the tree crushed 17 vehicles of various types.

He said an occupant of one of the vehicles, a 47-year-old local male was killed.

"The body has been taken to Kuala Lumpur Hospital (HKL) for post-mortem examination.

"Two other victims, a local male and a Swedish woman, who are likely an e-hailing driver and passenger, have also been taken to HKL," he told reporters at the scene this evening.

He said the incident occurred during heavy rain, and action had been taken by Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) to clean up the site.

"The lane will be completely closed for cleaning and will be reopened after completion," he said.

Nazron said the police also advised vehicle owners and injured victims to come forward to make reports for further action.

"Police will also obtain witnesses besides tracing the family members of the deceased victim," he said.

Operations at the scene also involved personnel from police, Fire and Rescue Department and Civil Defense Force.

Earlier, a Fire and Rescue spokesman said that their Kuala Lumpur Operations Centre received an emergency call at 2.19pm and dispatched vehicles to the scene.
