KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia failed to qualify for the Asean Under-16 Championship semi-finals following a 3-1 loss to Thailand in their final Group C match at Surakarta Stadium, Indonesia, today.

The Malaysian team, coached by Spaniard Javier Ribera, conceded three late goals.

Yet, it was Malaysia who started brightly with striker Izzuddin Afif scoring the opening goal in the fourth minute.

But it all went downhill for Malaysia after the team were reduced to 10 players following a red card.

Thailand equalised with a penalty by Jompon Homboonma in the 74th. Two minutes later, Siwakorn Ponsan put them ahead 2-1 before Poramet Laoongdi scored in the 88th.

Malaysia finished third in Group C with three points. Meanwhile, Australia thrashed Timor Leste 12-0 to top Group C.
