KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia got off to a rousing start in the Under-16 Asean Championship by thrashing minnows Timor Leste 5-0 in Sunday's Group C match at Surakarta, Indonesia.

Javier Jorda Ribera's side scored through Izzuddin Afif (35th minute), Fahmi Farizamal (55th), Awal Wafiy (66th, 89th) and Arrayan Hakeem (78th).

Malaysia are at the top of the standings with three points.

In the other Group C match, Thailand drew 0-0 with Australia.

Malaysia will face Australia next on Wednesday.
