KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia's hopes of qualifying for the quarter-finals of the Asean Under-16 footbll championship took a blow after going down 2-0 to Australia today at the Sriwedari Stadium in Surakarta, Indonesia.

The Malaysian side, coached by Spanird Javier Jorda Ribera, had thrashed Timor Leste 5-0 in their opening group match last Sunday.

Australia overpowered Malaysia

with goals from Amlani Tatu (45th minute+5) and Rhys Williams (90th+5).

Malaysia face a must-win match against Thailand in their final Group C match on Saturday.
