NIBONG TEBAL: Perikatan Nasional (PN) chairman Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin has just learned from news reports that former Cabinet minister Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed is no longer a Bersatu member.

The Bersatu president said he respects the decision made by the former Jeli Member of Parliament and personally considers Mustapa, popularly known as Tok Pa, a friend.

"I just heard, I read the news that he is no longer a Bersatu member. I didn't get any news about the reason, maybe after the last General Election, he didn't want to contest anymore.

"But that's okay, Mustapa is still my friend. I hope that even though he has left Bersatu, he can still maintain the cooperation we had during his time in the party," he said after a tea session at Taman Puteri Gunung here today.

Muhyiddin also believes that Mustapa will not join any other political party and that his announcement of resigning as a Bersatu member was likely to free himself from political involvement.

Today, the media reported that Mustapa reiterated his stance that he is retired from politics and will not contest in any elections.

The former Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Economy) also announced that he resigned as a member and from all positions in Bersatu on Sept 30 last year.

Previously, Bersatu Kelantan chairman Datuk Kamaruddin Md Noor stated that he was ready to give way for Mustapa to contest in Gua Musang or Jeli Parliament if a by-election was held.
