KOTA BARU: Kelantan recorded its first case of repeated diesel purchase at a petrol station when a man was arrested for buying 60 litres of the fuel in Rantau Panjang on Wednesday.

Kelantan Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry director Azman Ismail said the case was the first after the government introduced the diesel subsidy rationalisation on June 10.

He added the man, in his 30s, was found to have made repeated diesel purchases at 12.20pm totalling RM132.03.

"He then bought another RM200 of fuel 55 minutes later based on our team's observations and purchase records.

"The suspect was arrested with a locally registered four-wheel-drive vehicle.

"The vehicle was identified
as having been used in diesel smuggling during an operation by an enforcement team of the Pasir Mas Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry branch and the General Operation Force's 9th Battalion," he said when met yesterday.

Azman said the case was being investigated under the Control of Supplies Act 1961.

He added that the operator of the petrol station would also be investigated under the same act.

"He will be investigated for disobeying government instructions by allowing the suspect to make repeated purchases."

Azman added that the worth of the 60 litres of diesel and the seized vehicle combined was more than RM9,000.
