KUALA KUBU BARU: Leaders from the unity coalition and Perikatan Nasional leaders have gathered at Kuala Kubu Baharu ahead of nominations for the by-election in the state constituency.

Pakatan Harapan's candidate, Pang Sock Tao, arrived at the nomination centre in the Hulu Selangor District Multipurpose Hall and Sports Complex at 8.34am.

She was accompanied by DAP chairman Lim Guan Eng, Deputy Prime Minister and Umno chairman Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi as well as DAP national organising secretary Steven Sim.

Also present were BN Selangor chairman Datuk Megat Zulkarnain Omardin dan Umno secretary-general Datuk Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki.

Meanwhile, PN's candidate, Khairul Azhari Saut was seen together with other leaders from the opposition coalition including its chairman and Bersatu president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, Gerakan president Datuk Dominic Lau, and Selangor PN chief, Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali.

A straight fight for the Kuala Kubu Baharu state seat between Pang and Khairul is likely.

Pang, is the press secretary to Local Government and Development Minister Nga Kor Ming, while Khairul is the Hulu Selangor Bersatu acting division chief.

The May 11 by-election was triggered by the passing of the seat's three-term assemblyman Lee Kiong Hiong of the DAP.

In last year's Selangor state election, Lee won the seat for Pakatan Harapan in a four-cornered fight against candidates from PN, Muda and Parti Rakyat Malaysia.
