KUALA KUBU BARU: Pakatan Harapan (PH) will field DAP's Pang Sock Tao for the Kuala Kubu Baharu (KKB) by-election scheduled to take place on May 11.

DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke Siew Fook said the decision to field Pang, who is also the press secretary to Housing and Local Government Minister Nga Kor Ming, was finalised after considering all qualifications possessed by Pang.

"The decision made (was part of our effort) to highlight young candidates and individuals that are high-calibre and can represent the unity government.

"We want the candidate who is chosen (to contest in the by-election) to uphold the harmony of the unity government and is capable of representing all ethnicities.

"We also want a representative who can look after the Malays, Chinese and Indian community while taking care of the Orang Asli community," he said when announcing the candidate earlier.

Earlier, a DAP source told the New Straits Times that Pang had been chosen as the candidate for the by-election triggered by the death of its incumbent Lee Kee Hiong on March 21.

The Election Commission (EC) has fixed May 11 for the by-election. Nomination is set for April 27, with early voting on May 7.

In the Selangor state election last year, Lee helped DAP to retain KKB after she polled a majority of 4,119 votes in a four-cornered fight.
