ALOR STAR: A boy, 10, was found drowned in a drainage sump at Perumahan Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) in Sintok yesterday.

Muhammad Aiman Harith, of SK Bandar Baru, was believed to have gone fishing with three friends. The incident occurred after heavy rain.

His father, Mohd Hashim Nazri, 36, said he was at home with his youngest daughter, Nurisya Amanda, 5, when Aiman left to play with his friends, while his wife, Siti Noorazar Shamsudin, was working at UUM's Security Department.

"My wife called and told me that our son had drowned. I rushed to the scene.

"I'd reminded him many times about playing in the area," he said at Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital's Forensics Department here today.

Upon arriving at the scene, he said, he saw passers-by performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation on Aiman.

Hashim said his son's body had been taken out of the drain by a university security guard.

Aiman will be buried in Kodiang.

Kubang Pasu police chief Superintendent Rodzi Abu Hassan said they received a report on the incident at 4.55pm.

"The victim was pronounced dead by a medical assistant from a clinic at UUM.

"The victim and his friends had gone fishing in the area and were believed to have bathed in the drain before he was found drowned."
