BALING: Authorities have found the body of a missing 15-year-old boy in the waters of Sungai Ketil near Kampung Kuala Merak here today.

Baling police chief Superintendent Shamsudin Mamat confirmed that the victim, Muhamad Fakhrullah Mohamad, was found drowned at the same spot where he was last seen, at 10am today.

"Yesterday, at approximately 5.30 pm, a teenager drowned while swimming in Sungai Ketil. Eight of his friends were with him at the time.

"The body was found at 10am, in the same location where he drowned, entangled in submerged tree roots," he said in a statement today.

Shamsudin said that a search and rescue (SAR) operation to locate the body involved various agencies and local residents.

He added that the body has been sent to the hospital for post-mortem examination.

Earlier today, the media reported that a 15-year-old boy was feared to have drowned in Sungai Ketil yesterday evening.
