KUALA LUMPUR: His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia, today reminded parliamentarians to be prepared to perform their duties ethically throughout his reign, which commenced on Jan 31.

He said this in his measured yet resolute royal address at the First Meeting of the Third Session of the 15th Parliament, His Majesty said he is new to the parliamentary setting, and stressed the importance of familiarising himself with various matters.

He noted that his speech would adopt a more 'measured' (halus) tone compared to his previous address in Johor to avoid causing offence.

"But in the future, I hope everyone will be vigilant," he said.

Highlighting the continuity of his role in accordance with the Federal Constitution and established regulations, Sultan Ibrahim underscored his commitment to fulfilling responsibilities and upholding the trust of the Rulers.

His paramount goal is to safeguard the country's sovereignty, ensure national prosperity, and preserve the well-being of the people.

His Majesty called for unity and collaboration among all parties, including the government and the opposition, emphasising collective efforts in developing the nation for the benefit of its citizens.

"The success or failure of this country doesn't solely rest on the shoulders of the Prime Minister but on all 222 Members of Parliament entrusted by the people as their representatives in the government.

"All parties are well aware that my priority is the well-being of more than 33 million Malaysian citizens out there.

"Therefore, I hope all MPs will focus their efforts on improving the lives of their constituents and not for the interests of political parties or oneself," His Majesty added.
