KUALA LUMPUR: Is Lee Zii Jia's coach, Wong Tat Meng, calling it a day?

The question arose after Tat Meng, 57, announced that the recent Thomas Cup in Chengdu, China, which ended last Sunday, would be his last in his coaching career.

This development means that Tat Meng will not be a part of the 2026 Thomas Cup in Horsens, Denmark.

Tat Meng said the Thomas Cup in Chengdu was his most memorable moment with the national squad. Malaysia reached the semi-finals before bowing out 3-1 to eventual champions, China.

"Thanks to the entire team for their efforts in successfully finishing the tournament in third place. It was a very meaningful week and an unforgettable one for me.

"Especially since this is the last time in my coaching career that I

participated in this prestigious world team championships (Thomas Cup).

"Thanks to everyone for their trust and support given to me. Looking forward to seeing the Malaysian team achieve another success in the next Thomas Cup," Tat Meng said on Instagram today.

Tat Meng still has a contract with Team LZJ, and he is preparing world No. 10 Zii Jia for the Paris Olympics in July. He began coaching independent shuttler Zii Jia last July.

Before that, Tat Meng served as the head coach (singles) of the Hong Kong national team for a year after four years with the Korea Badminton Association, during which he also coached the current world No. 1 women's singles player, An Se Young.
