MUAR: Home owners who took time and effort to decorate their houses around here received prizes yesterday in conjunction with Merdeka Day.
The prizes were given out by Bukit Kepong state assemblyman Datuk Dr Sahruddin Jamal.
"I am excited and proud to see Pagoh and Bukit Kepong residents observing Merdeka Day by decorating their homes," Sahruddin said.
Malaysia and Johor flags, banners and slogans were put up by residents at their homes.
One decorated house in Kampung Paya Redan won first place and the home owner received RM1,000.
Muhammad Ashraf Mohd Shah and his mother took several days to put up the decorations.
The runner-up, Abdul Satar Hassan of Kampung Melayu, Bukit Pasir received RM500 and third prize winner Md Yalani Sutinan at Kampung Bukit Bandar, Bukit Kepong received RM300.
"The prize money can be used to buy household needs during these difficult times," said Srikandi Bersatu Pagoh chief Janariah Abu Nawan.
