KUALA TERENGGANU: The soon-to-be established Terengganu Petroleum Council (TPC) will ensure sustainability of the oil and gas industry for the state.

Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Razif Abdul Rahman said the establishment of TPC was timely and would augur well to provide the state with economic opportunities.

“This will help streamline our efforts to ensure oil and gas revenue is appropriately channeled to the state according to our rights.

“Also, it will give us a firmer avenue to negotiate the award of contracts and joint-ventures in a transparent manner with agencies like Petronas, for the benefits of Terengganu people,” he said at the announcement of the establishment of the TPC, at Wisma Darul Iman here.

Razif said TPC was the just a platform to maximise value-chain initiatives in the oil and gas industry towards developing human capital, technical expertise and revenue for the state.

“With TPC, we will be able to directly identify jobs, skills training, scholarships, courses and technical expertise for the locals.

“We can prioritise, have greater participation, better control and work according to our needs and requirements, without disrupting initiatives of the federal government,” he said.

The menteri besar said he would chair TPC and Sultan of Terengganu Sultan Mizan Zainal Abidin would be its patron.

“Other professionals have also been roped in to give TPC greater efficiency and effectiveness,” he said.

Among them include Terengganu Incorporated Sdn Bhd chief executive officer Dr Wan Ahmad Rudirman Wan Razak.
