KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak and wife Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor today distributed some 12,500 packets of “bubur lambuk” (porridge) to the public at Masjid Jamek Kampung Baru here.

The distribution of bubur lambuk was done in conjunction with the fasting month of Ramadan and Nuzul Al-Quran.

Fifty pots of the popular ‘Kampung Baru Bubur Lambuk’ was contributed by Najib and Rosmah.

Najib and wife, accompanied by their eldest son Mohd Nizar Najib who arrived at the mosque at 5.25pm, were greeted by more than 10,000 people.

Speaking to reporters after distributing the porridge to the public, Najib said the distribution of bubur lambuk here has been a tradition and it will continue to go on.

When asked about his brief visit to Kampung Baru’s "Pasar Ramadan" Najib said the traders there are happy with the arrangements made by the government which collected only RM450 a month, while some were given loans without interest.

Najib added, the people should take advantage and visit the pasar Ramadan to have wider selection of food to break their fast.

"From what I have seen today, the response have been good,” he said.

Meanwhile, mosque chairman Datuk Idris Shaari Mat Aris, told reporters the bubur lambuk distribution had been an annual personal contribution of the prime minister over the past seven years, adding that the porridge was cooked on a ‘gotong-royong’ (community self-help) basis by some 500 volunteers which made up from the residents, mosque officials and volunteers from the Prime Minister’s office.

Apart from distributing to the public, the bubur lambuk was also distributed to nearby mosques and surau.
