KUALA LUMPUR: UWC Bhd net profit increased 57.5 per cent to RM23.0 million in the third quarter (Q3) financial year ending July 31, 2021 from RM14.6 million a year ago.

The company said its revenue also increased 28.7 per cent to RM71.8 million in Q3 2021 from RM55.8 million last year.

The semiconductor and life science business segments were the main growth drivers behind Q3 2021 exceptional results.

The Q3 2021 profit margin was 32.0 per cent, compared to 26.2 per cent in the same quarter of the preceding year.

For the cumulative period of nine months, the company reported a net profit and revenue of RM71.9 million and RM221.1 million which exceeded 2020 full year results by 24.4 per cent and 0.9 per cent respectively.

UWC executive director and group chief executive officer Datuk Ng Chai Eng said despite headwinds faced by global economies, the company continues to record earnings growth.

"Our cumulative nine months' profits have already surpassed the financial year 2020 full year profits.

"As for the movement control order (MCO) 3.0, UWC's services are categorised as essential services, therefore we are allowed to operate at 60 per cent capacity.

"We have not received any cancellation of orders and continue to receive enquiries from existing and potential clients," Ng said.

Ng said the semiconductor industry remains robust as the company continues to widen its customer base, while fulfilling existing orders for chip testers, test handlers, automotive chip testers, 5G test equipment as well as moving up the value chain into front-end semiconductor.

He said the life science and medical technology segments have also experienced growth given its involvement in manufacturing of Covid-19 related test equipment, as well as test equipment for new virus strains.

"With that said, UWC will be identifying additional facilities in the near future and increasing capacities such as building and leasing new factories, purchasing new CNC machines to cater for this upcoming growth and Industry 4.0 progression," he added.
