HONG KONG: The landmark trial of pro-democracy media tycoon Jimmy Lai began on Monday in Hong Kong, where he faces national security charges that could send him to jail for life.

The 76-year-old millionaire entered the court wearing a suit, and smiled and waved at the court gallery, according to an AFP reporter there. Lai stands accused of "collusion" with foreign forces. --AFP
