PHNOM PENH: Malaysia may not be a legend in esports, but the national gamers believe they are clicking in the right direction.

They won a silver in the Sea Games Mobile Legends Bang Bang (MLBB) men's event on Sunday - exceeding their bronze target.

And team manager Andrew Chenong believes that Malaysia can be an esports power in future Sea Games.

Andrew said the team's initial target was a bronze medal as Indonesia and the Philippines were the favourites.

"The team performed extraordinarily to reach the final before finishing second to the Philippines," said Andrew.

The MLBB squad of Danial Fuad (Cikugais) and Zul Hashim Noor (Xorn) lost 3-0 to the Philippines in the final at the Nagaworld Hall.

Andrew, who goes by the name Sir Cloud in the esports circuit, said: "We beat the Philippines in the group stage, but unfortunately the results were different in the final.

"The silver medal is still a tremendous achievement. I believe our athletes aren't just here to participate, but take each competition seriously."
