KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysian shuttler Cheam June Wei has won a whopping RM131,000 in the Lin Dan Cup.

The independent player bagged the Lin Dan Cup, organised by the badminton legend himself.

June Wei pocketed a total of 200,000 yuan (approximately RM131,000) in prize money, which is equivalent to a Super 500-level tournament.

After two days of intense competition from June 15-16, June Wei clinched the Lin Dan Cup by defeating China's Ren Chengming 21-10, 21-14. Another Chinese player, Zhou Xinyu, took third place.

South Korea's former world No. 1 Son Wan Ho and Heo Kwang Hee failed to advance to the semi-finals.

The men's singles champion's prize in the Lin Dan Cup, which is in its fifth year, has reached a new high since the tournament's inception.
