PHNOM PENH: Malaysia had to settle for silver in the sepak takraw men's doubles event today after going down 2-1 to Indonesia in the final.

Noraizat Nordin and Aidil Aiman Zawawi began the match on a positive note at the National Olympic Training Centre and took the opening set 21-16.

Indonesia's Saiful Rijal and Muhammad Hardiansyah Muliang, however, came back strong and levelled the match after taking the second 21-16.

Indonesia's decision to bring on Rusdi as a replacement for Saiful paid dividends as they closed out the match with a 21-13 win in the third set.

Despite the loss, Noraizat said he was still satisfied with their performance in the final.

"We gave it everything we had. You have to stay calm whatever happens. Of course we wanted to win the gold but luck was not on our side today. We will continue working hard and hope to do better in our next competition.

Malaysia still has a chance of winning gold in the inter-regu event tomorrow.

The sepak takraw squad has won three silver and two bronzes in the competition so far.
