KUALA LUMPUR: Track cyclist Nurul Izzah Izzati Asri is not getting carried away with her golden outing at the recent Asian Track Cycling Championships (ACC) in New Delhi.

The Kedah-born Izzah was the standout performer for Malaysia, winning gold medals in the keirin and 500m time trial, one silver in the team sprint (with Nurul Aliana Syafika Azizan and Anis Amira Rosidi) and a bronze in the individual sprint.

Described as the new Pocket Rocket of Malaysian cycling after former keirin world champion Azizulhasni Awang, the cyclist is eager to improve and qualify for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.

On her immediate target, Izzah hopes to achieve another smashing show at the Hong Kong leg of the UCI Track Nations Cup on March 15-17.

"It was a learning curve for me in New Delhi. I must keep improving and show progress to match the best cyclists. Although Japan and China did not field their best cyclists for the ACC, their second stringers were still tough to beat for the titles," said Izzah.

"I must work on my speed and physique to be a contender in future events.

"I am among the top 20 cyclists in the world, but I must work harder to be part of the Road To Gold (RTG) programme for LA 2028.

In Hong Kong, Izzah hopes to do well enough to win medals.
