KUALA LUMPUR: MCA president Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong says his party will not support DAP in the Kuala Kubu Baharu by-election after all the insults hurled at them by the Pakatan Harapan component.
"When (they) criticise MCA, they do it as they please, with so much hatred. Now, you expect MCA to be the bigger person (to help and support DAP campaign at KKB)?
"After you openly insult and berate MCA now you expect us to repay your 'deed' with kindness?," he said in a TikTok video.
Wee highlighted past instances where DAP accused MCA of betraying the Chinese community for not recognising the Unified Examination Certificate and failing to abolish the bumiputera quota system.
In the video, he also inserted a clip of DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke calling MCA a "taukeh party", and openly saying he did not like MCA.
"Since when do we repay insults? After all the insults, they are asking our members to make amends and work together. This is a matter of our MCA members' pride and dignity. "
Wee also pondered the implications of asking Barisan Nasional to repay DAP's actions, questioning whether it meant MCA should repay DAP's insults.
"We are not a hypocrite party and we prefer being straightforward. We have worked hand-in-hand with MiC and Umno in Barisan Nasional since before independence and have served the multiracial community in the country.
"I appreciate our friendship and loyalty, which is the foundation of our fight from the start until now.
"We respect the friendship and closeness within BN all these years but put yourself in MCA's shoes, after all that we were accused of, defamed and insulted with, would you support them?"
MCA had previously stated that it would stay out of campaigning for the KKB by-election if the candidate representing the unity government was not from BN.
Umno president and BN chairman Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, however, had said his party would stick to its principles and respect the agreement of allowing the party which had held the seat to contest.
The KKB state seat became vacant following the death of DAP's incumbent, Lee Kee Hiong on March 21.
The by-election is scheduled for May 11.
