ALOR STAR: Pas Youth leader Mohd Shahiful Md Nasir who courted controversy recently after telling voters that they will 'end up in hell' if they vote for Barisan Nasional (BN) or Pakatan Harapan (PH), has decided to take a break from his duty as Sik division Youth chief and other positions in the party.

Shahiful had related his decision in a letter to Pas Sik division on Friday, two days after the video of him uttering the remarks went viral, courting fierce criticism from various parties nationwide.

Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor confirmed the matter, who is also Pas Sik division chief, confirmed the matter when contacted today.

In the letter, sighted by the New Straits Times, Shahiful informed the party of his intention to take break from his duties as the Sik Pas Youth chief and other posts in the party, until further notice.

In the letter, addressed to the Pas Sik division, Shahiful said the decision was made following controversy sparked by the viral video.

"This request is made voluntarily without being pressured by any parties and I take full responsibility to what had happened.

"For your information, the speech in the video was my personal words and did not represent Pas and Perikatan Nasional (PN) in general.

"I also wish to extend my apology to all parties be it in Pas or in PN which have been affected and offended by my speech," he said in the letter.

On Wednesday, a 28-second video clip went viral showing Shahiful coming up with his own fatwa saying voters who choose BN and PH will enter hell.

However, a day Shahiful had apologised and retracted the statement which was posted on Pas Sik's youth Facebook post.

In his apology, Shahiful asked the public to stop sharing the video to ensure harmony in the 15th General Election (GE15).
