KUALA LUMPUR: A man who appeared in a viral video of a fight at a grocery store in Penang recently has advised youngsters to be cautious when choosing friends.

In an interview posted on Facebook, Inthiran Packirisamy, 39, expressed his regret for being influenced by his friends to drink and wants to return to his passion in sports.

"I don't want to mix with friends like these anymore. So, I want to go back to my roots where I stick to my gym and sports.

"Young people need to work hard to uphold the reputation of their families, communities and country because they are the hope of the nation in the future," he said.

In the video, he revealed that he holds a diploma in logistics and supply chain and obtained a 3.73 cumulative grade point average (CGPA).

"I grew up in Penang and was practicing karate between the ages of eight and 17.

"I used to like driving, and I've also played with superbikes for three years. I love sports-related activities.

"Don't get involved in negative activities such as drug abuse, fighting, drinking alcohol and self-destructive behaviour."

The video of a fight between him and a store owner in Seberang Jaya, Penang went viral earlier this month.

The case caused an uproar among social media users.

In the video, Inthiran slammed his helmet on the cashier's counter and challenged the store owner to a fight.

Police had said that both men were detained for two days and were subsequently released.

Later, Penang police chief Datuk Hamzah Ahmad said both men had apologised to each other and withdrew their police reports.

A picture of them shaking hands and smiling also went viral.
