KAJANG: A student from a school here, who was reported to be in critical condition after falling from the fifth floor of the school building two days ago, has been confirmed dead today.

Kajang District police chief, Assistant Commissioner Naazron Abdul Yusof, stated that the 13-year-old boy was pronounced dead while receiving treatment at Kajang Hospital at 2:30am this morning.

"Further investigation through closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage obtained showed that the victim is believed to have fallen from the fifth floor of the school building.

"The student was treated at Kajang Hospital and sustained several injuries to his head and body. The cause of death was due to a fall from a high place," he said in a statement today.

He said that a special investigation team has been established by the Kajang District Police Headquarters (IPD) to investigate the case in detail.

"So far, eight witnesses have been called to record their statements to assist in the investigation of the case, which has been classified as sudden death (SDR). The case is also being investigated under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001," he said.
