KUALA LUMPUR: The Land Public Transport Agency (APAD) has issued a show cause letter to M. Kumar Trans Tour Sdn Bhd, the operator of the tour bus involved in the tragic accident at Km16.5 of Jalan Genting Highlands, Bentong.

Two Chinese nationals were killed and several others injured in the accident last Saturday morning. Nineteen other people, including the driver, were injured when the bus landed on its side while traveling downhill in the 10:40am incident.

"APAD takes issues involving public safety seriously following the incident," said APAD in a statement.

The agency added that it is currently working with other related agencies to produce a complete report of the incident before taking further action.

Yesterday, Tourism, Arts, and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing said the company's licence to operate tour buses has been suspended pending the outcome of the investigations.

Bentong district police chief Superintendent Zaiham Mohd Kahar said the tour bus driver, who did not possess a driver's licence and had 27 previous traffic summonses, has been arrested.

APAD, an agency under the Ministry of Transportation, stressed that if the investigation finds any breach of the company's licensing conditions, strict action may be taken, such as suspending or revoking the licence under Section 45 of the Land Public Transport Act 2010.
