KOTA SAMARAHAN: A first-year Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (Unimas) student, reported missing after failing to returning to his dormitory yesterday, has been found floating in the campus lake early this morning.

Police and the Fire and Rescue Department were called in to fish the body out of the lake.

The department identified the student as 20-year-old Zoolfazairy Zaharen.

It said the body was about 3m from the shore near a bridge, popularly called by students as 'Jambatan Cinta' (Love Bridge).

After pulling the body onto the bank of the lake, Health Ministry medical personnel confirmed the victim was dead.

Police said their initial indications showed there were no signs of a foul play and have classified the death as "sudden death".

The district police headquarters here stated they received a call from MERS 999 RC Kuching at around 8.34am reporting the discovery of a floating body in the man-made lake.

The investigation team that was rushed there found the body of a fully clothed male floating in the lake.

Police said the family of Zoolfazairy had positively identified the body as their kin and confirmed him to be the same person reported missing earlier.

The body has been sent to the Sarawak general hospital for a post mortem to determine the cause of death.
