KULIM: Two men were rendered semi-conscious, while two others felt nauseated, following a chemical leak at a plastic laminate production factory in Lunas today.

Kulim Fire and Rescue Department operation commander Hamizul Azwan Hamdan said that a team was dispatched to the scene after distress calls were received at 9:53 am.

"Upon arrival at the scene, a leakage of phenol gas was detected. There were four individuals affected by the gas, two men in a semi-conscious state and two men suffered nausea," he said in a statement today.

He said that the Hazmat team carried out decontamination operations on the victims and the surrounding area of the factory.

"All four victims were sent to Kulim Hospital. The Hazmat team confirmed that there were no further readings of hazardous chemicals at the location, and the operation concluded by 11.50 am," he added.
