SHAH ALAM: Ten factory workers were rushed to hospital following an ammonia gas leak at a factory in Jalan Keluli 1 at the Bukit Raja Industrial Area in Seksyen 7 here today.

State Fire and Rescue Department deputy director (operations) Ahmad Mukhlis Mukhtar said they were alerted to the incident at 11.15am.

"Preliminary checks suggested that there was a valve leakage from a tank storing ammonia gas.

"At present, 10 people, the victims comprise eight women and two men, including one worker from the factory next door.

"All victims have been sent to the Shah Alam Hospital for further treatment. Works to shut off the valve is being done by the hazmat (hazardous materials) team," he said in a statement.

Meanwhile, Shah Alam district police chief, Assistant Commissioner Mohd Iqbal Ibrahim, in a brief statement, confirmed the incident.

"Police and fire department personnel are at the scene to control the situation.

"All affected workers were rushed to hospital and have received oxygen. They are in stable condition," he said.

The authorities, he said, will provide updates on the situation.
