KUALA LUMPUR: Malayan Banking Bhd's (Maybank) digital banking platforms — the Maybank2u website and mobile phone app MAE — are back online after a service outage made them and debit card transactions unavailable since 5 pm on Thursday.

Complaints over the unavailability of its services surfaced on X at around 5pm.

The bank, via its X (formerly known as Twitter) account updated that transactions are back online, even though of card information is still offline.

Just an hour ago, it announced on the same account that its website and apps were experiencing an intermittent issue.

"Kindly be informed that MAE app, Maybank2u (web & app), Maybank2u Biz (web & app) and debit card transactions are temporarily unavailable."We are working to resolve the matter as soon as possible. Thank you for your patience and understanding," it stated. Maybank has been experiencing  multiple system disruptions in recent times, including one less than a week before Aidilfitri celebrations.

Last month, Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) ordered Maybank to provide it with a full explanation for the service outages.

The central bank asked the bank to explain the root cause leading to the incidents, as well as corrective and preventive measures undertaken to avoid a recurrence of similar issues.

BNM had said it will not hesitate to take further supervisory actions where banks have fallen short of its regulatory and supervisory expectations.

The Business Times has reached out to Maybank for further clarification on the service outage.
