KUALA LUMPUR: Singaporean actor Hisyam Hamid and his wife Rosmawati Hanafi or Mel have ended their 18-year marriage.

Hisyam, 39, said that he and Rosmawati would however remain friends and be the "best parents" their two children could ever have.

"We recently ended our marriage, but we have decided to continue to fulfil our responsibilities to our son and daughter," said Hisyam in an interview with Harian Metro today.

"Even though we have gone separate ways, we are still friends and parents, and we have promised to do our best for the future of our children."

Hisyam added that he and Rosmawati parted "on good terms" and have chosen to cherish all the "good times" they had spent together for almost two decades.

"We have also chosen to set good examples for our children, by staying clear of controversies."

Earlier this month, Hisyam said that he was keeping mum over reports that his marriage was on the rocks.

He said that he would only reveal what was really happening between him and his wife when the time was right.

Hisyam and Rosmawati are the parents of Nurish Syameliah, 16, and Haydeen, 14.

Hisyam, a former fireman, began his acting career in Malaysia in 2003.

He has starred in more than 50 drama series and telemovies including Ariana Rose, Bukan Puteri Lindungan Bulan, That Cover Girl, Isteri Vs Tunang and Abang Bomba I Love You.

His best known movies include Kau Yang Satu, Dendam Pontianak and La Luna.
