BALING: A couple and their three-year-old son miraculously escaped unscathed after the car they were travelling in lost control and plunged into a deep ravine in Gunung Inas here yesterday.

Baling police chief Superintendent Shamsudin Mamat said in the 7pm incident, the family was travelling in a Honda City from Kampung Baru Kuak Luar in Pengkalan Hulu towards Baling.

Upon approaching the scene, the driver, identified as Nur Raihan Rumli, lost control of the car while negotiating a downhill bend.

"The car went out of control and plunged into the steep ravine on the right side of the road, leaving the car totally mangled," he said in a statement.

Shamsudin said Nur Raihan, her husband Abdul Jalal Mat Zaini, 26, and their son Muhammad Adib Kamali Abdul Jalal escaped injuries.

"However, the woman is admitted to the Baling Hospital's red zone for observation since she is seven months pregnant," he said.

Meanwhile, Baling Fire and Rescue Station chief Mohd Jamil Mat Daud said rescuers had used ropes to descend to the crash site and lifted the victims to safety.

"The victims were taken to safety before being transported to Baling Hospital," he said in a statement.
