KUALA LUMPUR: The wife of the bodyguard who was shot yesterday morning initally thought her husband had suffered a high blood pressure episode due to fatigue.

Siti Noraida Hassan, 38, said they had just returned from celebrating Hari Raya in Pahang before her husband had to report for duty at 11pm the previous night.

"When I was informed that he was shot while attempting to block bullets fired by a man, it came as a shock," she said when contacted yesterday.

She said she received the phone call from Cyberjaya Hospital at 2am, informing her about her husband's condition.

Commenting on her husband's current condition, Noraida said he had to be sedated to stop the bleeding in his abdomen.

"The hospital informed us that my husband is experiencing severe bleeding, causing difficulty breathing, and needs to be sedated for surgery on his small intestine.

"His condition is quite critical and surgery needs to be performed within the next 24 or 48 hours. (I) hope everything goes well," she said.

Siti Noraida said she has three children aged between 3 months and 13 years.

She added her husband was assigned as a part-time personal bodyguard before Ramadan and had accompanied the suspect's wife to court for divorce proceedings.

"My husband works as a security guard at a local media company and only works as a personal bodyguard part-time.

"If he is available, he will work as a personal bodyguard, depending on whose assignment he needs to accompany," she said.

She said her husband's duty was only to escort and that he was unarmed.

"I leave it to the police; we know who the perpetrator is. Hopefully, he surrenders himself and takes responsibility for what he did," she said.

Yesterday, in the 1.20am incident, a man fired two shots at his wife at the entrance of the arrival hall but missed, with one of the shots hitting the victim, who was one of her two bodyguards.

Federal Criminal Investigation Department (CID) director Datuk Seri Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain said police had launched a manhunt and urged the suspect Hafizul Harawi, 38, to turn himself in.

He added that police had roped in CID personnel in neighboring states for the operation, which will cover the country's border areas.
