KUALA LUMPUR: Umno Youth is giving the management of KK Super Mart a period of two days to put-up a banner at all 881 branches of the convenience store nationwide to apologise for the sale of socks bearing the word "Allah".

Its chief, Dr Muhammad Akmal Saleh, warned that the wing would initiate a "stronger boycott" against KK Super Mart in the event the management of the convenience store fails to submit to its demands.

"To the management of KK (Super) Mart, we are giving you two days.

"A banner apologising for the incident must be mounted at each of your 881 branches around the country.

"I will instruct Umno leaders to go to the ground and check if all the branches of the convenience store has put-up the banner or otherwise," said Dr Akmal, who is also Merlimau assemblyman and Jasin Umno division chief.

A video clip of his statement over the matter was uploaded on his Facebook page last night.

Earlier, Dr Akmal had lodged a report against the management of KK Super Mart at the Merlimau police station in Melaka at 10.30pm yesterday.

"With the police report, we are asking police to investigate and find those responsible for the incident, be it KK (Super) Mart or its vendor.

"We want investigations into the incident to be conducted under Section 298(A) of the Penal Code (for causing disharmony, disunity, or feelings of enmity, hatred or illwill, or prejudicing, the maintenance of harmony or unity, on grounds of religion). We should not let the matter slip away just because someone cried (when apologising over the incident).

"We want to call on all Malaysians to teach them a lesson," he said, adding that the incident was unacceptable and that it had crossed the line.

Dr Akmal also called all people and parties, irrespective of race, religion and political affiliation, to send a clear signal for strict action to be taken against the person or group responsible for the incident.

KK Super Mart had issued an apology after the sale of the socks went viral on social media.

The convenience store, in a statement, said it had stopped the sale of the socks made by Miranosock.

KK Group of Companies founder and executive chairman Datuk Seri Dr KK Chai said he was also furious with the sock suppliers.

"We are fully responsible for this and we offer a public apology to the people, especially Muslims," he said.
