JOHOR BARU: The Southern Volunteers (SV) have broadened their scope to include the rural youth of Johor, involving 667 Village Development and Security Committees (JPKK) across the state, Media Digital Johor reported.

This expansion is set to welcome 16,675 new members.

This initiative will see 25 SV members collaborating with village chiefs and local residents in each village to drive societal contributions and volunteerism.

Established in 2020 with the endorsement of The Regent of Johor, Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim, SV aims to foster youth participation in social responsibility activities that benefit the people and the state of Johor, including efforts during and after disasters.

The launch of SV JPKK was officiated by Johor Chief Minister Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi at a major community service program in Kampung Parit Kuari Darat, Batu Pahat. This event marked the simultaneous initiation of activities across nine locations, engaging all 667 JPKKs within the state.

Also, the event featured the symbolic handover of two lawn mowers from the State Government to each JPKK to support the "Clean Johor" programme, which includes an allocation of RM1 million. A total of 2,230 units of Village Street Lights were also distributed through a RM5.5 million allocation from the Rural and Regional Development Ministry.
