KUBANG PASU: A soldier died while five others were injured after a military truck was involved in an accident at Jalan Kampung Bukit Kechik in Changlun here today.

Kubang Pasu deputy police chief Deputy Superintendent Chien Chunng Tsaur said the 1.30pm incident occurred when the military truck swerved to avoid a collision with another vehicle while transporting food supplies.

"The accident occurred when a 29-year-old soldier from the 5th Border Regiment Camp in Bukit Kayu Hitam was driving from the Territorial Army Camp in Kepala Batas here towards the 30th Brigade Headquarters in Bukit Cowder Camp, Perlis.

"The military truck is believed to have veered off to avoid an unidentified car moving in the opposite direction. The vehicle lost control and veered away and fell into the oil palm plantation on the left side of the road.

"The accident caused the military truck to overturn," he said when contacted today.

Cheng said as a result of the accident, one of the five rear passengers suffered fatal injuries at the scene, and his body was sent to the Jitra Hospital for post-mortem.

"Another soldier, who was seriously injured was taken to the Jitra Hospital, while the remaining four soldiers were sent to the Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital (HSB) in Alor Star for treatment," he added.

Cheng said the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
