KUALA LUMPUR: A group of Israeli soldiers were seen cheering in front of the heavily-damaged Muslim Care Malaysia's building in southern Gaza recently.

This barbaric act was captured in photographs that were relayed to the society's president Zulkifli Wahijan.

The building in question is the 'Kompleks Wakaf Produktif'built by Muslim Care Malaysia and the ministry in charge of waqaf affairs in Palestine.

Israeli soldiers had attacked the building situated next to several other buildings, including a residential complex which was also damaged due to military bombardment.

Zulkifli said he was informed about an incident when a Muslim Care Malaysia representative in Brazil, Hussein Abu Marzouq sent him a text message and photographs at 2am on Thursday.

He said building had been built to cater to the needs of Gazans.

"The Wakaf Produktif building cost about RM5 million. Construction began in 2021 following a collaboration between Muslim Care Malaysia and the ministry in charge of waqaf affairs in Palestine.

"The two entities successfully built it totally due to the contributions from Malaysians.

"The building was completed several months ago, but unfortunately, no one used it yet. We had planned to launch the Wakaf Produktik Muslim Care Malaysia building in October. However, it did not materialise after Israel's attack on Gaza after Oct 7," he said.

Zulkifli said the project was situated on a 2,635 sq m plot of land and it had potential to develop Gaza's economy.

"We planned to lease out the lots in the building to local traders. The rent would be channeled into efforts to help the Gazans.

"All four premises developed by Muslim Care Malaysia have been damaged due to Israeli military attacks. These include the Muhammed Al Amin Mosque; an additional space built for the comfort of the public at the immigration complex at the Rafah Crossing; and the Dr Siti Hasmah physiotherapy centre built by the MCM, Perdana Global Peace Foundation and Humanitarian Care Malaysia (MyCare).

"The latest building to be damaged by Israel is Muslim Care Malaysia's Wakaf Produktif Complex," said Zulkifli.

Meanwhile, Muslim Care Malaysia-Palestine manager Ahmed Abu Ayesh said the asociation's effort to contribute cooked food to Palestinians continued.

Ahmad, who was previously injured in a bomb attack by Israel, said he is facing difficulty delivering food due to many disruptions in communication networks imposed by the Zionist regime.

"After two weeks, I am resuming the effort to supply hot food for Palestinians who are starving and need help to get through the current winter season," he said.
