MELAKA: A fishing enthusiast was shocked after discovering a human skeleton on the bank of the Malim River in Taman Gadong Perdana here, yesterday evening.

Melaka Tengah police chief Assistant Commissioner Christopher Patit said they received information about the discovery at 5.10pm from a man.

He said the 32-year-old man went to the location to fish before stumbling upon the skeleton.

"As a result, the forensics team and the K9 Tracking Unit hurried over to the scene.

"The investigation, conducted together with pathology experts from the Melaka Hospital Forensic Department, confirmed that it was a human skeleton.

"The skeleton was found in an incomplete state as half of it was covered with leaves and soil," he said.

According to him, it is believed that the human remains were lifted from the river by a dredger conducting river expansion work in the area.

"Further investigation at the scene did not discover the identity of the deceased apart from ruling out any criminal elements.

"It was then taken to the Forensic Department for further action to determine the cause of death," he said.

Commenting further, Christopher said the investigation at the scene is still ongoing, and the K9 Unit is searching for any additional remains or related evidence.
