JOHOR BARU: The Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz joined the Indian community and celebrated the state Deepavali celebration, at Yayasan Warisan Johor, yesterday.

Taking to Facebook, he expressed his satisfaction at sharing the vibrant stage, illuminated with vibrant lights, with the Indian community.

"I am pleased to witness the celebration of this multicultural society fondly known as Bangsa Johor, where we embrace all communities in Johor with utmost respect and tolerance.

"Our unity bond needs to be continuously celebrated and upheld as the cornerstone of harmony among us," he said.

He also extended his heartfelt wishes to the Indian community, a happy Deepavali.

Meanwhile, State Tourism, Environment, Heritage and Culture Committee chairman K. Raven Kumar said the celebration was organised for the first time by the foundation via collaborative efforts of various Indian community associations in the state representing the Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, and Sikh ethnicities.

Sultanah Rogayah Foundation director Datuk R. Sugumaran co-hosted the event, which was attended by Johor Deputy speaker Datuk Samsol Bari, MIC Deputy president Datuk M Asojan, MCA president Datuk Seri Wee Ka Siong and state exco members.
