KUALA LUMPUR: Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor has denied meddling in the Umno polls and said she had no influence in deciding who won or lost.

Rosmah said there was no reason for anyone to link her to the party polls as she did not have any position or power to decide anything in Umno.

She added that her husband, Datuk Seri Najib Razak, had also lost all hold on the party after being sent to jail over the 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) scandal.

"I don't have an post or position in Umno and the same goes for my dear husband. Therefore, I should not be linked or mentioned for any issue that arises during the party polls and elections," she said in a Facebook posting.

During the recently concluded Umno Youth and Puteri polls, the couple's daughter Nooryana Najwa - who is popularly known as Yana, was chosen as Umno Lembah Pantai's Puteri chief.

She was also picked to be listed for a post in the Puteri exco line-up.

However, Najib's son Datuk Mohd Nazifuddin failed in his first attempt to vie for the Umno Youth vice president's post.

Rosmah said there were many Umno members who still loved Najib for his contributions apart from the fact that he had been in the party from the time he was just 23.

Najib, 69, was the 7th Umno president until May, 2018 when he stepped down after the party along with Barisan Nasional (BN) suffered its most crushing defeat in the 14th General Elections (GE14).

He was subsequently convicted of embezzling RM42 million of SRC International Sdn Bhd funds and sentenced to 12-years jail and RM210 million fine for the offence.

Rosmah, who has herself been sentenced to 10-years jail and RM970 million fine after being convicted of three corruption charges involving RM1.25 billion project to supply solar hybrid energy to rural schools in Satawak, said she was now focussed on fighting for justice for her jailed husband besides looking after the well-being of her family.

"There have been a lot of challenges, obstacles and setbacks over the last couple of years that my family and I were forced to face.

"I just dont have the time and energy to interfere or get involved in Umno affairs," she said.

The 71-year old - who used to be known as the First Lady of Malaysia (FLOM), expressed gratitude that despite all the challenges, obstacles and setbacks that her family had faced, there were still many loyal friends who had stood by their side.

"There were good friends who contested during the party polls and surely, we wished them all the best and prayed for their victory.

"Hopefully the delegates can see for themselves the honesty and loyalty that such people can bring to the party.

"There were also friends loyal to us who lost...if I had interfered, then how is it that they could have lost isn't it?" she questioned.

Touching on Yana's victory, Rosmah said her daughter's triumph was due to the latter's own strength, sheer willpower and determination.

Rosmah said Yana had been travelling all across the country to meet with grassroots Umno members to explain about the tragedy suffered by Najib.

"Yana has gone from Perlis to Sabah to meet Umno grassroots and also members of the public...she has met thousands and thousands of people," she said.
