KLUANG: Two people were killed, and two others injured in an accident involving a car and a motorcycle near a cemetery at Km47, Jalan Batu Pahat-Mersing, here, early this morning.

Kluang District Police Chief Assistant Commissioner Bahrin Mohd Noh said those killed in the 3.47am crash were identified as front-seat passenger of the Proton Saga, V Prashaanthan, 20, and motorcycle rider, T. Ravindran, 51.

"Preliminary investigations at the scene found that the Proton Saga was heading towards Kluang from Batu Pahat while the Honda Wave was heading in the opposite direction.

"At a road bend, the car is believed to have lost control and entered the opposite lane.

"It crashed into a lamp post on the right side of the road and struck the motorcyclist.

"The front-seat passenger of the Proton Saga and the motorcycle rider died at the scene," he said.

He said the driver of the car, B. Nantha Kumar, 30, and the back-seat passenger, B. Sathis Kumar, 27, sustained severe injuries and were rushed to the Enche' Besar Hajjah Khalsom Hospital (HEBHK)."

He said the case was being investigated for causing death by reckless or dangerous driving (Section 41 (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987).

An EMRS vehicle with eight members from the Kluang Fire and Rescue Station were sent to the scene.

According to Operations Commander, Senior Fire Officer II, Jusoh Mohd Salleh, they used a crane to remove the motorcycle and its rider who was stuck under the car.

"The driver of the Proton Saga was also stuck in his seat and the team extricated the victim using special equipment," he said.
