KULAI: The body of a 17-year-old disabled teenager was recovered today after he is believed to have slipped into a drain at Jalan Rajawali 16, Taman Wawasan, here, today.

The victim was reported missing yesterday.

He is believed to have drowned after slipping into the drain while playing alone and was carried away by currents.

His parents placed an emergency call yesterday at 9.41pm, after they could not locate him and suspected that he had ventured on his own to play near the drain.

Fire and Rescue Department deputy commander Fairuz Helmi Mohd Ali said upon receiving the distress call yesterday, a search and rescue (SAR) operation was launched.

The second day of the SAR operation today saw an extended search radius which led to the discovery of the teenager's body some 5km away from where he initially fell.

The body was handed to the police to facilitate their investigation.
