PETALING JAYA: A three-year-old boy named Jden was diagnosed with cerebral edema and has since suffered severe brain damage apart from losing his eyesight due to retinal hemorrhage.

The toddler comes from a single-parent family and requires help with his medical and living needs amounting to RM60,000.

Jden was sent by his mother to the Malaysian Association for The Welfare of Mentally Challenged Children (IQ70Plus) when he was one and a half years old.

The association's social worker, Ben Wong Ken Hau explained the little boy suffered brain damage and his body coordination was affected badly where he even consumed milk through intubation.

"Currently Jden is undergoing speech therapy and physiotherapy every week and treatment is crucial for him as his body will be weak and unable to grow normally and healthy like other kids without the treatment and therapy.

"In speech therapy, he is learning how to chew and swallow his food in a correct way while in physiotherapy session, he learns how to keep his body flexible and to avoid muscular atrophy," he said.

Ben added that after the therapy sessions, Jden was able to crawl a short distance without any help therefore they wish to continue with his treatment.

Unfortunately, due to the pandemic, the association is unable to conduct any offline activities to collect funds, and currently they are taking care of 72 special children who suffered from intellectual disabilities where most of the children are severe patients and it spends about RM100,000 monthly to take care of the children.

"It becomes difficult for us (association) to gather funds for Jden to continue receiving his therapy and treatment," Ben added.

The physiotherapy costs about RM680 per month and the speech therapy about RM936 per month.

Additionally, there are also medical and follow-up treatments which cost about RM450 per month, calculated costs for milk formula and diapers (RM1,125 per month), and nursing fees (RM1,900 per month).

Ben hopes that they can collect enough funds for Jden to let him receive the therapy and treatment he deserves.

The public can help by making donations to the association's Hong Leong current account 29100028158 and forward the payment details through IQ70Plus Whatsapp at https://iq70plusofficial563.wasap.my or 010-238-7072. They can also email [email protected].
