KOTA KINABALU: Though there are shortages of imported chicken supply, there is no increase in the price of these essential items here.

For now, consumers around the state capital see no increase in the price of chicken but are worried it might not be the case when the last week of Ramadan approaches.

Sarman Ruki, 69, who often accompanied his wife to buy food items such as chicken, found that the price of chicken thighs was still the same at RM12.30 per kilogram.

"Today, we bought a week's worth of chicken. The price is the same as before.

"The current price is still affordable.

"I hope there will be no increase in the price of goods, especially in the run-up to the Hari Raya Aidilfitri.

"Hopefully, all relevant parties are considerate with consumers and the community. This year is the first year we celebrate Raya with more relaxed standard operating procedures as compared to two years ago," he said.

Meanwhile, retail owner Koh Chung Jade said despite having difficulty in getting chicken supply from abroad, it should not be the reason for them to sell it at higher price.

"I have 12 container orders that are still in Singapore and we are in the dark over the delay.

"However, we still sell chicken items such as thighs, breasts and wings at the same price.

"But we limit the maximum bulk buying to 30 kilograms per person," he said, adding the shop also sells local chicken parts.
