KOTA KINABALU: In a significant leadership transition, Datuk Seri Dr Haji Sabin Samitah has officially been appointed as the seventh Mayor of Kota Kinabalu City.

The handover ceremony, held on January 5, 2024, at the Kota Kinabalu City Hall (DBKK), was attended by notable figures including Datuk Christina Liew, Datuk Phoong Jin Zhe, and Datuk Seri Panglima Sr. Haji Safar Untong.

This historic event, marking a new chapter for Kota Kinabalu, was also witnessed by other dignitaries like Datuk Abidin Madingkir, Tan Lee Fatt, and Peto Galim. The ceremony saw the presence of City Hall director-general Junainah Abbie and other department heads.

Dr. Sabin Samitah, who succeeds Datuk Noorliza Awang Alip, brings a wealth of experience, having held key positions including the director-general of the National Anti-Financial Crime Centre and CEO of the Inland Revenue Board.

His leadership is expected to drive significant development and prosperity in Kota Kinabalu, building on the progress achieved over the past 23 years since its elevation to city status.
