JOHOR BARU: Worried that she would miss her ferry to Tioman Island, an elderly woman made her way to the polling centre early and was already in line as early as 7am.

Maimunah Abdul Rahim, 69, clad in a green baju kurung, holding a bag containing her prayer garment, said the trip to Tioman was a holiday plan made by her nephew in Kuala Lumpur.

She said despite going for holiday today, it was still her duty to cast her ballot in the Johor state election.

"I performed my Subuh prayers at Masjid Bulatan nearby, and came here directly to vote. Hopefully I can catch my ferry to Tioman Island.

"I worry that I won't make it in time to the Mersing Jetty, because it takes about two hours to get there from here.

"But whatever it is, I still have to come and vote because this is our responsibility," she said at the Dewan Kampung Melayu Majidee here, this morning.

After about 10 minutes, Maimunah walked out of the polling centre and heaved a sigh of relief.

"Now I can go to Tioman without any worry."

It is a six-way fight in Larkin, between Malaysian United Democratic Alliance (Muda) candidate Rasid Abu Bakar, Hairi Md Shah (Barisan Nasional), Dr Zamil Najwah Arbain (PKR).

Also joining the fray are Zulkifli Bujang (Perikatan Nasional), Norramadan Buan (independent) and Parti Pejuang Tanah Air's Mohamad Riadz Mohamad Hashim.
